About Us

The Community Therapists Network is a national organisation providing information, training and education to a network of therapists working across community rehabilitation and intermediate care settings and employed within education, health, mental health and social care (local government).They work to support the quality of life care of people diagnosed with and living through a potentially life-limiting  condition.

The Community Therapists Network believes in supporting coordinated action, as this approach can be far more effective than the sum of the action from the individual people or organisations. We actively encourage professionals working in all aspects of community therapy to collaborate and share knowledge, enthusiasm and best practice. We believe this is tan effective way to stimulate sustainable advances in the care of people with potentially life-limiting conditions and support their life in community.

The Committee

Dr Gareth Noble

Gareth joined the School of Health Science at Swansea University in 2006 as a lecturer in pathophysiology and therapeutics. He is now Associate Professor in Autism / Programme Director for the MSc Autism and Related Conditions. He is also Director, Postgraduate and Continuing Education at the College of Medicine. Associate Dean (Postgraduate Taught). Gareth is responsible for establishing the Swansea Hub for Autism Research and Education (SHARE) ‌SHARE is an initiative that has the aim of bringing together various collaborative partners from across South West Wales in order to improve the lives of everyone living with Autism. Dr Gareth Noble

I have worked in research and clinical rehabilitation since 1990, the year I qualified as a Chartered Physiotheraist (North East London Polytechnic, & London Hospital School of Physiotherapy). I completed a PhD in Neuropsychology in 1997 (University of Birmingham). I led the Oliver Zangwill Centre for Neuropsychological Rehabilitation (Ely, UK) 2002-19. I hold an Affiliated Lectureship at University of Cambridge Dept of Psychiatry. I am interested in wide range of topics including:

1) outcome research particularly in relation to modern psychometric approaches such as Rasch Analysis.

2) social media in rehabilitation,

3) holistic neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation, especially from the point of view of use of assistive technology,

4) specific aspects of neuropsychology – executive functions, dyspraxia, attention impairments

I am Director of NIHR Research Design Service for East of England, President of The Society for Research in Rehabilitation and Chair of the United Kingdom Acquired Brain Injury Forum.

Dr Anita Rose

Dr Anita Rose is a Consultant Neuropsychologist. She works at the Raphael Hospital in Tonbridge and also works as an independent Consultant Neuropsychologist across the globe. She has had a passionate interest in Neuropsychology obtaining extensive experience in this field since 1998.

 

Anita provides significant input into the field of multiple sclerosis via her clinical work, research and consultancy to the MS Groups in the UK, as Vice Chair for the European Neuropsychology Special Interest Group in MS, and acts as a Clinical Advisor to the MS Society in South Africa.

 

She is also a Champion for Brain Injury and has previously been the Chair for the acquired Brain Injury Forum London and is an Executive Committee Member for the UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum.

Anita supports the work of the CTN and has given workshops, with some of them available to watch in the supporters section of the website. Anita is a sought after speaker across the globe with her message being one of empowerment to both people who have neurological conditions and to health professionals who work in the field of neurology.

Angela Lockett

Angela Lockett is a counsellor and clinical supervisor with a special interest in the world of trauma and how it affects us.
 
Angela has a passion for working with people. Following her own brain tumour diagnosis, another world of possibilities opened up and she is embracing them. The people she has met have both inspired and encouraged her human approach to trauma. Angela believes being able to really hear what people need can help tremendously with the trauma of being diagnosed with a life limiting or life long condition. The opportunity to learn and grow from people’s own traumatic experiences is important for our understanding of how to best support individuals.

Dr Nassif Mansour

Nassif has been a GP in Kingston Upton Thames, Surrey for nearly 20 years. He is GP with Special Interest (GPSI) in Neurology, Mobility Disorders & Falls as well as Community Adults Rehabilitation working across Primary and Secondary Cares. Nassif is also member of and Medical Advisor to Kingston’s Community Neuro-Rehab & Intermediate/Reablement Teams; Member of London Neuroscience Strategic Clinical Network and Member of London Cancer Alliance Brain & CNS Pathway Group

Susan Nancarrow

Susan has extensive international experience in higher education and health care delivery, development and management.

 

Susan has held senior executive roles in higher education, including Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) Chair of Academic Board and Professor of Health Sciences. Susan also brings extensive international experience and contacts, having spent ten years in working in UK universities and across the NHS in England. She has nearly 20 years’ experience as a health services researcher with expertise in health workforce reform, service delivery and organisation in Australia and the United Kingdom.

 

Susan is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Director on the Board of the Northern New South Wales Local Health District, was founding chair of the North Coast Allied Health Association and has previously held roles as a an ex-officio member of the Southern Cross University Council and other not-for-profit organisations.

Dr Kate Radford

Dr Kate Radford is Associate Professor in Rehabilitation Research (Long Term Conditions) at Queens Medical Centre Nottingham. Kate qualified as an Occupational Therapist in1990, working predominantly in neurological rehabilitation. Her PhD involved developing and validating tests to predict driving safety in for people with Long Term Neurological Conditions (LTNC) including traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and dementia. Following clinical work in a community neurological rehabilitation team in 2003, she became interested in vocational rehabilitation (VR) and this is now the main focus of her research.

Recently completed projects include those to map VR services for people with LTNC in England; to evaluate pilot VR services for cancer survivors; a feasibility trial of a stroke specific vocational rehabilitation intervention; evaluation of an early health based intervention to support people with traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a return to work and studies investigatingimplementation barriers to stroke specific VR delivery. Current research includes a feasibility trial of an early specialist TBI VR intervention and a study evaluating a service development of an early intervention model of VR to support stroke survivors in a return to work

Our Patron - Professor Pam Enderby OBE

Pam Enderby is a speech and language therapist and Professor of Community Rehabilitation in the Institute of General Practice & Primary Care, University of Sheffield.  She has been involved in promoting interprofessional learning and working and was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sheffield up to August 2003.  She has led research programmes into various aspects of therapy, particularly related to models of delivery, effectiveness and outcomes, and has published broadly.

The Secretariat for the Community Therapists Network is serviced by Innervate Ltd, working in partnership with healthcare professionals to develop health and medical information and educational resources. The company has been stimulating innovative healthcare initiatives since 2000.
